About Bli Norsk

A free, independent practice resource for the Norwegian citizenship test.

What Bli Norsk is

Bli Norsk is a free practice site for the Norwegian citizenship test (statsborgerprøven). It holds 300 practice questions covering the three areas the test draws on — education and working life, family and health, and Norway past and present — each with the correct answer and a short explanation of why it is correct.

Everything is free to read without signing in. You can go through all 300 questions with their answers and explanations without creating an account; the account exists only for people who want the interactive quiz and progress saved across devices. There is no advertising, no subscription and no paywall.

Is this the official test?

No. Bli Norsk is an independent resource with no connection to the Norwegian authorities. The questions here are practice questions written for this site, based on the topics the test covers — they are not tasks taken from a real exam, and nobody can guarantee that these particular questions will appear.

The test itself is administered by HK-dir (the Directorate for Higher Education and Skills), and citizenship applications are handled by UDI. For anything concerning registration, fees, deadlines or which conditions apply to you, the official sites are what count — not this one.

A note on language

The citizenship test is taken in Norwegian, in either bokmål or nynorsk, at language level A2. There is no English version of the real exam.

These English pages exist so that you can understand the material while you are still learning the Norwegian terms. They are a way in, not a replacement — at some point before the exam you will need to meet this material in Norwegian, and the Norwegian pages on this site hold a separate set of 300 questions for exactly that.

The English and Norwegian question banks are two independent sets covering the same syllabus. They are not translations of each other, so working through both gives you broader coverage rather than the same material twice.

How the content is made

Questions are written in the format the real test uses: one question, several options, one correct answer. Each has an explanation stating why the answer is correct rather than only what it is. That is deliberate — the exam phrases the same topic in different ways, and a memorised answer does not transfer where an understood principle does.

Facts about the exam itself — the number of tasks, how many are scored, how many correct answers are required, and the time limit — are taken from HK-dir and cited. If we become aware that something is wrong or out of date, we correct it. If you spot an error, please use the feedback button at the bottom of the page; that is the quickest way to get it fixed.

Who runs it, and how it is funded

Bli Norsk is built and run by a single independent developer, not a company or an organisation. The site has no advertising or subscription revenue; hosting and maintenance are covered by the developer, helped by voluntary donations from people who find it useful. That also means the content is not shaped by advertisers or partners — there are none.

Privacy

You need no account to read the content, and without one nothing about you is stored beyond what your own browser remembers. If you do create an account, your email address and which questions you have answered are stored — that is all that is needed to sync progress between your devices. The data is not sold and not shared. You can delete your account and everything attached to it at any time from the account settings.
